ARISE AFRICA / SOUP KITCHEN
Arise Africa is the social arm of Nelspruit Lighthouse Church. It is a community-based NPO working towards enriching the lives of vulnerable children and youths through a weekly soup kitchen, monthly food parcels’ distribution, provision of remedial education services, and life skills training. Arise Africa was established in 2010 and has since then reached out to hundreds of families with Christmas lunches, food parcels, cooked food and remedial classes. It is based in Mataffin, Mbombela. Our mission is to be a beacon of hope for the vulnerable in our community. The soup kitchen runs on Wednesdays from 2pm to 5pm, serving over 70 meals. As a follow up to the soup kitchen, we also provide packed cooked food and food parcels to the more vulnerable children.
WHAT DO WE NEED? HOW CAN YOU HELP?
At the soup-kitchen we need any quantity of the following items: mealie meal, rice, vegetables e.g. potatoes, tomatoes, onions, butternut, cabbages, and carrots; beans, lentils and meat e.g. chicken, beef and boerewors
For the food-parcels we need the following quantities per family: 10kg mealie meal, 2kg rice, 2kg beans, 2kg sugar, 750ml cooking oil, soya mince, tea bags and any canned products like fish and beans. Our goal is to provide for 30 vulnerable families every month.
For the personal-care of the more vulnerable children we need the following per child: one 500ml toothpaste, three 100ml bathing soaps, one 1kg washing powder. During winter we need: blankets, throws, dry-macs and warm clothes. Our goal is to provide personal-care products for 50 children.
Your consideration and support is highly appreciated.
